It's often necessary to address trauma to clear the way for true happiness and good mental health.
Trauma, from a variety of sources, affects most people at one time or another. Whether due to the violence of rape, molestation, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or the crushing loss of a loved one or relationship, trauma can create mental scarring that, if left unaddressed, can keep us from experiencing authentic joy. At Decision Point, addressing trauma is part of our process as we believe that properly identifying and treating trauma is essential to removing barriers to overcoming substance misuse and achieving truly fulfilled living.
Decision Point employs the most effective and efficient trauma treatment now known – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR desensitizes trauma sufferers from the traumatic experience in order to “delink” the aroused emotional state of trauma from the impulse to use substances to self-medicate. Our EMDR therapist is Level II trained in EMDR and is an EMDRIA consultant and training facilitator.
Through EMDR trauma therapy, Decision Point clients increase their ability to identify, express and regulate their emotions, understand how relational trauma can impact life and relationships, improve the ability to connect with others in an emotionally intimate way, and eliminate the need to self-medicate.
