Adventure Therapy and the Addictive Process

Did you know that much of the development of adventure therapy began with the treatment of addictions?

Originally published in the Journal of Leisurability, vol. 22, #2, this article gives an excellent overview of how adventure therapy can be used to help people with addictions or behavioral problems. It describes one man's experience with adventure therapy: from ice-breakers and warm-up games, to problem-solving activities, to trust walks and ropes courses, and ending with a solo experience -- much like what Decision Point clients experience in our adventure programming.

The article then goes on to explain why adventure therapy can be so effective in the addiction recovery process and how it fits into the bigger picture of recovery.
